Adventurous Engagement Session at Rough Ridge | Grandfather Mountain, NC
There’s something about the Blue Ridge Mountains that just hits differently—especially at sunrise. Rough Ridge, nestled along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway near Grandfather Mountain, gave us the dreamiest backdrop for this engagement session.
When Regina & Tyler reached out and said they wanted somewhere adventurous, intimate, and wildly beautiful, I knew exactly where to take them. Rough Ridge is known for its sweeping mountain views, wooden boardwalks, and that iconic overlook that makes you feel like you're standing on the edge of the world. This location fit perfectly since their wedding was going to be in Hot Springs, NC so it seemed perfect!
The Hike + The Light
We met just before sunrise and made the short (but uphill!) hike together in the quiet morning air. If you’re wondering if sunrise sessions are worth the early alarm—yes. Always yes. The golden light over the peaks, the low fog hugging the valleys, and the soft stillness make it feel like time slows down.
These two were naturals. Barefoot on the rocks, wrapped up in blankets, laughing in the wind—it felt like a glimpse into who they are when no one’s watching. My favorite kind of session.
Why Rough Ridge is a Hidden Gem for Engagement Photos
• It’s accessible (just a 0.8-mile hike to the best views)
• No crowds if you go early
• Looks like a national park without needing a big travel plan
• Great for couples who want movement, intimacy, and a sense of scale in their images
